Wildflower Walk May 13, 20 and 27, 2017

Yellow flowers on the Wichita Mountains

Reservations open beginning 4/10/17.

Interpreters from the Association of the Friends of the Wichitas will be conducting interpretive “Wildflower Walks”. These tours will be offered on Saturday mornings. Reservations are required and are taken on a first-come, first-served basis by telephoning (580) 429-2197 beginning on the reservation date between 9 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The tours will be conducted at 10 a.m. The tour participants will board a bus and ride to several sites within the Refuge, where short walks will be conducted to identify various types of wildflowers.

Tour participants will meet at the Refuge Visitor Center located at the intersection of Highways 49 and 115. Visitors may obtain a Refuge leaflet and map from one of the dispensers located at each of the five entrances.

Each tour will last approximately three hours. Due to the length of the program, children must be at least eight years of age to participate. Reservations will be retained until ten minutes prior to departure on each date. After that time, stand-bys will be accepted. If the bus seating capacity is filled after accepting stand-bys, late arrivals with reservations will not be able to participate.

Interested persons are advised that the Refuge’s public interpretive program is intended for individuals and family units. Only one family’s reservation will be accepted per telephone call. We regret we cannot offer group tours but invite all interested individuals to call for reservations which are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations must be made by telephoning the Refuge Visitor Center on the following line only: (580) 429-2197, beginning on the reservation date indicated above, between 9 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
